Giving

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son…” John 3:16

I’m a giver. Even right now, at this moment, I’m thinking of countless ways I want to give a gift to someone. It doesn’t have to be a holiday season for my mind to go in this direction because it’s just simply my personality. Don’t get me wrong, I love receiving things just as much as the next person, but giving just sparks a joy inside of me. At the same time, however, it also sparks a fear. Fear of rejection. Fear of not giving the “right” thing. Fear of not doing it well enough. Fear of giving too much or too little. Just as much as I get joy from giving, I also get fear.

I share this with you because sometimes we all hesitate to give something to anyone. It can be someone you know and love deeply or a complete stranger. A little voice gets inside our heads whenever the thought of giving to someone else to feed us little bits of fear. It can be big fears or something small, but, nonetheless, this fear causes us to stop and hesitate.

I chose this verse for a reason. God gave out of love. He gave us His Son, Jesus, out of love – with no hesitation. He didn’t hesitate to give because of how much He loves us. Granted, God is perfect, so He doesn’t have fear. But did you know that “perfect love drives out fear” (1 John 4:18)? Just that question alone punches me in the gut. Why? Because if God is love and He is also perfect, doesn’t that mean that same love flows through my veins? I’m not saying I’m perfect or even perfect in my love towards others. What I’m saying is that God’s perfect love lives in me. So if it lives in me, why should I give fear another inch? Why should I let fear prevent me from doing one of the most loving acts one can do to another?

Friend, if God is calling you to give, give out of love. Don’t let fear keep you from being used by God in the life of someone else. Instead, ask God to help you give out of His perfect love. There is beauty behind that obedience. It’ll drive out that fear and grow your giving heart even more.

Today, I challenge you to find one way to give outside of your comfort zone. And watch what that loving act does not only in someone else’s life, but in your life.

She was born and raised in a Christian home and spent her days as a little girl singing songs, playing around on the piano, and drawing with her crayons. After years of hardships and trials, Chloee found escape in her music and writing her own lyrics. She pursued a Worship Leader certificate at Bethel Music’s Worship School. When she completed her course, she led worship with her sister, Aliseea, at a small youth group they were both currently serving in. After they both stepped down from that role and during 2020’s pandemic, Chloee started her own podcast called W.O.W. She now finds joy in speaking God’s Word, singing about it occasionally with her sister, and creating digital designs to point others back to God and His Word. When Chloee isn’t designing or podcasting, she spends quality time with her family by having game nights, a movie marathon, or even jamming out to some worship songs.
