“He must become greater; I must become less.”
John 3:30
Such a simple verse but a huge, complicated request we as believers can make.
During my quiet time with God one day, this verse was part of the study I’ve been going through and when I read it, I really felt like God whispered right in my ear “you need to become less so that I can become more in you and your life”. It was almost like a jab in my heart. I’ve been so occupied with what was going on with me that I completely neglected making God not only first but more in my life. I was rushing in my prayers, I wasn’t taking my quiet time with God slow enough, I made my agenda and to-do list more important and made God less important. In doing that, my days were hard, sadness creeped in more and more, attacks were happening more frequently. I was a mess because I made myself more and God less.
Friend, when I tell you that once I had that heart change and new perspective, everything changed. I literally felt like I was recharged on the inside, ready to face the day differently no matter how I was feeling, no matter the attacks I may have been facing, I knew deep down that I could get through it. Why? Because I made myself less and made God more in me and my life. I restructured my day to make Him more in it. I restructured my focus to be more on Him. I restructured my mind to think more of Him and who He is in me and my life and who He can be, no matter what I may be facing at the moment.
This verse speaks so much to me. Specifically lyrics. If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that worship plays a huge role in my day to day life. There honestly isn’t a verse that I read that doesn’t remind me of lyrics to a worship song. So, naturally, when I read this verse, a song came to mind — ‘More Of You’ by Passion. Before I share some of the lyrics, I highly recommend you to listen to this beautiful heart song that has turned into a prayer of mine. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a scary prayer to have, but it’s also the best prayer to say. Once God becomes more and you become less, everything changes for the better.
“If more of You, means less of me, take everything. Yes, all of You, is all I need, take everything”
This should be our heart song, my friends. We should be in such a surrender mindset that we are asking God to take everything that makes us less and less like Jesus. The more we become like Him and the more He becomes first in our day to day lives, the more we can see Him move in us and through us. I don’t know about you, but that’s a life I want to live. I don’t want to live a life where I’m more, but rather where I’m less. And that is the best place we could ever be.

She was born and raised in a Christian home and spent her days as a little girl singing songs, playing around on the piano, and drawing with her crayons. After years of hardships and trials, Chloee found escape in her music and writing her own lyrics. She pursued a Worship Leader certificate at Bethel Music’s Worship School. When she completed her course, she led worship with her sister, Aliseea, at a small youth group they were both currently serving in. After they both stepped down from that role and during 2020’s pandemic, Chloee started her own podcast called W.O.W and small business, Simply by Chloee Jean. She now finds joy in speaking God’s Word, singing about it occasionally with her sister, and creating digital designs to point others back to God and His Word. When Chloee isn’t designing or podcasting, she spends quality time with her family by having game nights, a movie marathon, or even jamming out to some worship songs.
