“You did not choose me, but I chose you…” John 15:16
How beautiful is that reminder? God chose you. He looked at you and said “I want him” or “I want her”. He lovingly breathed out “I choose you.” He chose to chase you. To love you. To know you. To walk with you. To carry you. To help you. God chose; and He chose you.
No matter your pain, your past, your present, or the season of life you currently find yourself, God has chosen to be with you. But are you choosing to be with Him?
Recently, I’ve been relearning God’s heart towards me – towards us. Psalm 23 has been a passage that’s been pressed on my heart, mostly because of the important reminder each verse brings and the need of those reminders in the present season I find myself in. It’s one thing to know a passage but it’s another to experience the passage. And the experience comes with applying the Word in your life. God’s Word needs to go from being in your head to being active in your reality.
We can talk about the passage as a whole, but I want to point out two verses specifically in this little devo. “The Lord is my shepherd” (vs. 1) and “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies” (vs.5).
Those two specific things, He chose to do. God didn’t sit down with us individually and ask us “Do you want me to be this for you?” or “Do you want me to do this for you?”. No. He chose to be our shepherd and to prepare for us a table not just anywhere, but in the presence of our enemies. And oftentimes, I believe, we take those things for granted. We overlook the beauty behind these actions God chose to do for us. The main thing being: we didn’t have to ask Him. You and I didn’t have to ask God to be our shepherd or to prepare a table for us. He chose.
Let those two words ring in your mind: He chose. God sees you, what’s going on around you, and even what you’re going to do tomorrow and He still chose. He didn’t sit down and weigh His options. He didn’t ask the angels for their perspective or point of view on you. He looked at you in your mothers womb and past everything in your sinful life and chose to be your shepherd. Not only that, but He also chose to care for you even in the midst of your enemies – no matter how great or small they are.
The twist? Well, I don’t think we get to fully experience this truth if we don’t fully embrace it. Embrace the fact that you are chosen. Embrace the truth that the God of the universe chose you. Once you do, you get to experience the blessings that this truth has to offer.
be. chosen

When she completed her course, she led worship with her sister, Aliseea, at a small youth group they were both currently serving in. After they both stepped down from that role and during 2020’s pandemic, Chloee started her own podcast called W.O.W. She now finds joy in speaking God’s Word, singing about it occasionally with her sister, and creating digital designs to point others back to God and His Word.
